Fruit: Fruit is a great way to add natural sweetness to a child’s diet! Fruits contain fiber, which help balance out the sugars they contain. Be careful with acidic fruits, as the prolonged acid exposure can be damaging to teeth. If you choose to give you child acidic fruit, pair it with large glass of water to help gently wash away acid from teeth.
The Right Crunch: Potato chips and other crunchy, starchy foods are a fun occasional treat, but they can cause damage to your child’s teeth. Starches and other sticky foods feed the cavity-causing bacteria in their mouth. Instead, try serving crunchy fruits and vegetables: pears, apples, and grapes, or celery, carrots, and raw broccoli. These serve as natural toothbrushes, scraping plaque and food buildup away from teeth and stimulating saliva production to naturally clean your child’s mouth.
